Visual Arts
Lyndon Institute is a comprehensive, independent high school providing thoughtful and rigorous preparation for students of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and beyond to reach their intellectual, creative, and physical potential. Lyndon Institute reflects our community's commitment to the arts by requiring all students to take at least one credit in the fine or performing arts during their high school career.
Visual Art offerings at Lyndon Institute include various courses such as, Analogue Photography, Painting, Ceramics, Studio Art, and Advanced Placement Studio Art. Additionally, The Norris Center For the Arts, houses a state-of-the-art Macintosh computer lab where students can enroll in Web Design, and various levels of Graphic Art, studying the Adobe Suites Program, which includes InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. With a recent partnership between Lyndon Institute and Lyndon State College, the Lyndon Learning Collaborative provides the opportunity for eligible Lyndon Institute seniors to obtain college academic credit through college-level courses offered at LI, including Art Foundations and Digital Photography. Also, the Lyndon Institute Visual Art program sponsors a chapter of the National Art Honor Society. The goals of NAHS are to aid members in attaining the highest standards in art scholarship, character, and service, and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community.
National Art Honor Society
The criteria for membership in the National Art Honor Society emphasizes outstanding artistic scholarship and service to the school and community through the development of artistic endeavors, together with a strong moral character. By exemplifying these standards, the individual student members of the society promote an awareness of art and become active participants in the education process at their school and their community. Additionally, students are required to participate in community service and volunteerism in the visual arts, enroll in a fine arts class or have already completed a fine arts course, and attend NAHS meetings.
The purpose of NAHS at LI is to...
- Recognize those students who have shown outstanding ability in the field of art.
- Serve as an inspiration for students to strive for higher goals in their art work.
- Foster excellence and a dedicated spirit in the pursuit of art.
- Encourage the creative abilities and talents of the individual student.
- Assist students in working toward the attainment of their highest potential in the field of art.
- Bring art to the attention of the school and community.
- Increase the awareness of art as a viable area within the total school curriculum.
- Advance aesthetic awareness in all aspects of the total education program.
