    TITLE: CTE Special Needs Coordinator

    REPORTS TO: Dean of Special Services, in collaboration with CTE Director

    POSITION SUMMARY: The Special Needs Coordinator develops and maintains relationships with students, instructors, administrators, and sending school case managers, with the purpose of supporting IEPs and 504s for individual students in career and technical education programs,  as well as others who are determined to be in need of additional support, or meet the Vermont Agency of Education definition of special populations (see below). This position actively supports the cultivation and preservation of Lyndon Institute’s culture of belonging and inclusion. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develop a supportive presence in each LI CTE program by establishing relationships with students, instructors, administrators, and sending school counterparts
    • Conduct observations of students on caseload to ensure:
      • accommodations are being followed 
      • instructors have support for academic and behavior challenges
      • communicate progress and challenges with families
    • Coordinate team meetings with sending schools, students and families if: 
      • attendance, grades, and behavior are not improving
    • Create a program folders for each instructor that includes:
      •  a roster of students with special needs
      • student plans and a summary of identified accommodations (updating plans as needed)
    • Assist instructors in:
      • interpreting and distilling important information from educational support plans
      •  honoring confidentiality related to IEP and 504 plans
    • Admission process:
      • attend IEP/504 meetings  regarding appropriateness of placement for students interested in CTE programs (before application) at request of sending schools. 
      • schedule and facilitate meetings with sending schools for IEP and 504 newly accepted with students and families in the spring semester before their first semester of a CTE program
    • Participate fully in:
      • staff meetings and professional development
      • quarterly meetings with the Statewide Special Needs Coordinators’ Workgroup
      • Student and Teacher Support Team Meetings
    • Case Management Responsibilities as assigned by supervisor. 
    • All other duties as assigned.
    Requirements:

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1.  Tools/Technology Requirements:

    a) Ability to utilize technology and operate computers and computer programs. Experience and knowledge of computerized database systems.  

    2.  Physical and Mental Demands:

    a)  Frequently required to stand; walk; sit. Occasional lifting or assisting with lifting, reaching with hands and arms.
    b) exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
    c) and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
    d) and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

    3.  Work Environment:

    a)  Generally inside the school building.
    b)  Noise level is mild to moderate.
     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Licensed special educator in the State of Vermont with “CTE - Special Needs Coordinator” endorsement (or ability to obtain a provisional license)

    • Individuals preparing for non-traditional fields

    SUPERVISOR:
     Head of School

    SUMMARY: The Outdoor Adventure Director will oversee creating, planning, and promoting opportunities for Lyndon Institute (LI) students to enjoy outdoor recreation regularly. Programming can be during or after the school day, large and/or small groups, in coordination with classes and curricula or not. S/he will lead a volunteer committee of educators and staff at LI to achieve these goals and to define this program.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Plans, organizes, and conducts recreation programming including outdoor education, overnight camping trips, leisure education, experiential education activities, and day trips.
    • Plans for and leads such activities as nordic ski, snowshoe, canoe, lead team building activities, ropes course facilitation, natural science and wildlife education, mountain biking, hiking, explore outdoors, fishing, stalking, practicing survival skills, and crafts
    • Leads the volunteer Outdoor Adventure Committee for ideas, implementation support, and community integration of efforts
    • May also collaborate with Outdoor Recreation and Land and Resource Management programs to include relevant activities
    • Responsible for assuring the safety and proper maintenance of any equipment as it is used for activities
    • Assists faculty with planning and executing like programming
    • Oversees all aspects of planning: brainstorming, logistics, communication, safety training, and execution
    • Partner with local area resources for mutual benefit (Outing Club, the Mountain, etc.)
    • Manage outdoors equipment inventory 
    • Other duties as assigned
    Requirements:

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field preferred; 
    • Minimum of one year experience working with children or adolescents in a recreational/activity setting; background, knowledge, and skills in a variety of outdoor recreation activities; commensurate industry experience is preferred
    • Appropriate certification in areas of speciality and eligibility for additional training in other areas as deemed necessary. Such certification could include Emergency Medical Technician, Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician, or Wilderness First Responder
    • Valid driver’s license required. Candidate must obtain School Bus endorsed license (LI to pay applicable fees)

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, and lift up to 60 pounds. Able to perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound. Must be able to hike long distances and at times run for short distances over rough terrain. Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity, with or without correction, that will enable him/her to complete administrative and clerical tasks and visually observe clients in outdoor activities. It is understood that activities take place in a wide variety of conditions, often inclement, and require the ability to function effectively in such an environment.

    Responsibilities:
