Lyndon Institute Spanish Students Win Several Awards

The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese
Congratulations to several Spanish students from Lyndon Institute who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2019 National Spanish Examinations.

Students from Lyndon Institute earned a total of 3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals along with 16 honorable mentions.  “Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 146,000 students participating in 2019.”

Students that received awards are:

Oro/Gold:
Manu Di Pace Martins, Hana Cermakova, Andi Elie

Plata/Silver:
Toby Ham

Bronce/Bronze:
Evan Bollman, Wilson Krause

Mencion Honorifica/Honorable Mention:
Rozalynd Ahlmann, Jade Aviles, Abigail Ham, David Kantor, Ellen Lammers, Kelleigh Simpson, Vuk Vukicevic, James Sanborn, Tomas Kocian, Vanessa Tunga, Lindsay Joyal, Courteney Simpson, Duncan D'Olimpio, Colby Zaun, Haley Chadburn, Brittney Smith

Students from LI have a long history of high achievement on these exams and were taught by Spanish teacher Chris Manges.  A total of almost 50 students volunteered to take the exam this year. 

“I am really proud of these students who volunteered to take the exam and prepared for it on their own time,” said Manges.  “It shows their dedication to the language and a willingness to challenge themselves outside of class.  Hopefully they inspire their peers to try it next year!”

The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
