McGregor Accepted to Vermont Leadership Institute

September 15th, 2021

Congratulations to Lyndon Institute’s dance teacher, Rebecca McGregor, on being accepted to the Vermont Leadership Institute for the 2021-2022 school year. Mrs. McGregor was one of many applicants in the state and we are proud of her selection and her accomplishments.

Mrs. McGregor founded the dance program at LI 18 years ago and has sent numerous students into the professional and collegiate world of dance as educators, mentors, and dancers both in Vermont and across the United States. Mrs. McGregor also collaborates with the Agency of Education to develop dance standards and licensing expectations for dance teachers in the state.

In addition to her daily dance classes and clubs, she organizes and hosts the annual Vermont State High School Dance Festival, holds a position on the mentoring committee for the National Dance Education Organization advocating for strong dance education programs across the country, and created the VT Dance Professional Learning Community as a venue for dance educators in the state to network and collaborate within the field to better serve students.

When asked about her most significant contributions, she states, “While it's great I have received such recognitions the most rewarding part of the job is seeing student growth in classwork and performance and then have students pursue dance after high school. That is the best! I don't teach for the recognition. I teach to make a difference in the lives of our students by sharing my passion of movement and a holistic approach to wellness using dance education. Vermont Leadership Institute feels like a great next step to grow my professional network, leadership abilities, and bring more opportunities to dance for my students, colleagues, and community”.

Mrs. McGregor will attend multi-day leadership sessions each month through the Vermont Leadership Institute and will be able to apply the experience to her professional learning goals, the organizations she is involved with, and the AOE.
