LI Announces Addition of Unified Basketball
April 12th, 2022
The athletic department at Lyndon Institute has announced the addition of Unified Basketball to its spring sports programming. Established to foster inclusion and camaraderie between high school students with intellectual disabilities and those without (Unified Partners) as athletes, teammates, and training partners, Unified Basketball is an AIA-sanctioned sport supported by and in conjunction with Special Olympics here in Vermont.
The season begins on April 7th with an average of six games throughout the spring season. “I am very pleased that Lyndon Institute is able to provide this opportunity to our students,” said Head of School Twila Perry. “I would like to thank Eric Berry for his work to make this possible.”
The team is coached by Richard McCarthy and assisted by many dedicated volunteers. “I am happy that we were able to join the Unified basketball league and look forward to seeing the ear to ear smiles on the faces of our athletes and competitors,” said LI’s Director of Athletics and Activities, Eric Berry. “This is a win-win for the participants, partners, and our community!”
