Lyndon Institute Director of Athletics and Activities Eric Berry has announced the hiring of Eli Appleton, as the school’s new boys’ varsity basketball coach.

“We are extremely excited to have Eli as the next head coach of Lyndon boys basketball. Eli had a tremendous interview and has made the natural progression to become a head coach. He’s hungry and also comes from a tradition rich in basketball (having played for Aaron Hill at Hazen Union). I am very confident in Eli’s knowledge of the game which was evident during the interview process,” said Eric Berry, LI’s Director of Athletics.

Coach Appleton has led North Country Union High School’s JV-A program for the last 2 years and was the JV-B coach for 2 years while also acting as an assistant coach during a very successful run over the past 4 years.

“Eli understands what it takes to get to the next level. He played at the Barre Auditorium and was an assistant coach in that environment. More importantly, Eli has the ability to connect with student athletes, get maximum effort out of them, and will lead in an education-based manner,” Berry added.

“I am honored to be named the next Varsity Basketball Coach at Lyndon Institute. Lyndon has a long history of success and I hope that with the help of the players in the program, we can make our own mark on Vermont D2 basketball. It is my hope that the community will rally behind the boys basketball program this winter as we work to have a successful season,” said Appleton.

Lyndon Institute’s Head of School, Dr. Brian Bloomfield says he is “looking forward to watching our student athletes grow as a team under Coach Appleton’s leadership. The boys basketball program will benefit from Eli’s experience and expertise and we are looking forward to the upcoming season.”

Coach Appleton will lead the boys basketball camp beginning on July 25th-29th.

Appleton lives in Glover, and is currently a science teacher at North Country Union High School.
