January 8th, 2024

University of Vermont President Suresh Garimella announced the nomination of Lyndon Institute senior Lydia Gillespie for UVM’s Green and Gold Scholarship, an honor awarded to Vermont’s top students.

Throughout the entirety of her high school career, Lydia has enrolled in the most rigorous coursework - completing ten honors courses her sophomore year, seven AP courses, and two dual enrollment courses. Lydia is actively involved in her school and local community. She has been a member of student council all four years, participated on various sports teams, and is a member of the school band. She has also completed over 50 hours of community service and continues to find ways to contribute positively to her school and local communities while maintaining high honors.

As a Green and Gold Scholar at UVM, Lydia will receive a full-tuition scholarship based on the rate set for Vermont residents.

"Lydia's academic achievement is derived from her unending desire to challenge her limits." says  Lyndon Institute math teacher and Math Department Head Tim Ulrich. "It is the product of her commitment and effort to consistently improve. The time and dedication it takes to achieve Green and Gold is no small feat and I am so proud of what Lydia has accomplished over her four years with us."

Social studies teacher and Social Studies Department Head Kathy Smith commented "Lydia Gillespie has consistently proven herself to be a focused, organized, and dedicated academic leader. She truly enjoys learning and is motivated by the desire to expand her horizons. From her early days at Lyndon Institute to senior year, Lydia has set the tone for numerous classes pushing herself and her peers to realize their potential. As a senior, Lydia’s maturity and sense of humor have been true assets in the classroom. Lydia is a great representation of a Lyndon Institute student–she is committed and inquisitive, but also a genuinely funny, good hearted person, who both adults and peers alike want to engage with."
