Title: Career and Technical Education School Counselor
Classification: Staff; 11-month position; August 1 through June 30
Reports to: Director of Career and Technical Education

Lyndon Institute is a comprehensive, independent high school in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.  Lyndon Institute inspires our students to become accomplished learners, creative thinkers, and compassionate community members.

The school counselor will work with our team of CTE instructors to ensure students in our program have a strong, clear postsecondary pathway to college and career success, and will work with Lyndon Institute’s counseling office to support the social and emotional needs of students enrolled in our high school programs.  Key job duties include: 

  • Working with Lyndon Institute Career and Technical Education students to ensure strong post-secondary outcomes. 
  • Planning, organizing, and implementing counseling activities including student orientation, career awareness programs, and student recruitment activities, including middle school outreach. 
  • Working with CTE instructors to ensure all students are welcome, safe and included in all programs, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, disability and background. 
  • Representing Career Center programming interests and student access in the development of Lyndon Institute’s annual master schedule. 

Requirements

Performance responsibilities: 

  • Work effectively with small and large groups of Lyndon Institute Career and Technical Education students in providing orientation to post secondary opportunities and plans 
  • Assist students in workload in defining and developing a Personalized Education and Career Plans
  • Maintain occupational information, including United States Department of Labor information to disseminate to students and teachers
  • Plan, organize, and implement counseling activities including student orientation, career awareness programs, and student recruitment activities
  • Work with the Director of CTE, staff, employers, community members, job service staff, and other training and placement sources to assist in the maintenance of an up-to-date career and technical education curriculum
  • As necessary, represent the Lyndon Institute Career and Technical Education Center to the community, including the development and dissemination of all promotional materials about the center
  • Attend IEP meetings, staff meetings and instructional support team meetings for all Lyndon Institute Career and Technical Education Center students as needed
  • Assist the Director of CTE  in facilitating a public relations and marketing program
  • Assist in the organization of the master schedule for Lyndon Institute to advocate for Career Center programming requirements and student access 
  • Assist in the collection of data to maintain career center database in order to conform to the requirements of the Agency of Education
  • Potential leadership opportunities in the future
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director

  • The conditions of employment are governed by the employee policies adopted by Lyndon Institute.
  • 1.0 FTE/11-month (August 1-June 30) salary and benefits are governed by the established policies adopted by Lyndon Institute.
