  • Land and Resource Management Instructor

    Lyndon Institute is a comprehensive, independent high school providing thoughtful and rigorous

    intellectual, creative, and physical potential.

    Job Summary:

    This full-time position will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging and hands-on curriculum in areas including forestry, ecology and conservation, species identification, land use, wildlife habitat, and timber management practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in natural resource management, practical field experience, and a commitment to fostering the next generation of environmental stewards and skilled professionals. The learning environment for this program includes our 300 acre Binney Woods forest, at the foot of Burke Mountain.

    Duties, Responsibilities and Specific Requirements:
     
    • Program Development and Instruction:
      • Develop, implement, and continuously improve a comprehensive CTE curriculum in Land Management and Natural Resources, aligned with industry standards and best practices.
      • Deliver engaging and effective instruction through a variety of methods, including lectures, discussions, laboratory activities, field work, and project-based learning.
      • Incorporate practical skills training, including safe and proficient chainsaw operation, timber harvesting principles, forest management techniques, and ecological monitoring.
      • Integrate concepts of environmental planning, land use regulations, conservation practices, and sustainable resource management into the curriculum.
      • Continuously assess student learning and provide meaningful feedback.
      • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
    • Program Management and Safety:
      • Maintain a safe and organized learning environment, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations, particularly during field work and equipment operation.
      • Oversee the maintenance and safe use of program equipment, including chainsaws, forestry tools, and other relevant technology.
      • Manage program resources effectively, including budget, equipment, and supplies.
      • Collaborate with school administration, CTE department colleagues, and program advisory board members to ensure program relevance and effectiveness.
      • Stay current with industry trends, technological advancements, and relevant certifications in land management and natural resources.
    • Student Support and Development:
      • Work with our college and career counselor to guide students in exploring post-secondary options, internships, and career pathways in related fields.
      • Foster student leadership, teamwork, and professional skills through classroom activities and Career and Technical Student Organizations, specifically Future Farmers of America (FFA).
      • Connect students with Industry professionals through guest speakers, field trips, and potential mentorship opportunities.
      • Promote student participation in regional, state, and national events, including the annual state Game of Logging event, and FFA competitions.
    • Collaboration and Communication:
      • Collaborate effectively with other teachers, counselors, and administrators to support student success.
      • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and program activities.
      • Participate in school-wide events, professional development opportunities, and program-related meetings.

    Skills and Qualifications:
     
    • Education & Certification:
      • Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science, or a closely related field preferred.
      • Valid Vermont teaching license with CTE endorsement in a relevant area, or eligibility to obtain such licensure. Lyndon Institute will pay for courses in the Vermont State University’s CTE Teacher Prep Program if necessary.
    • Experience:
      • Significant practical experience in forestry, land management, environmental planning, or a related field.
      • Demonstrated knowledge of sustainable forestry practices, ecological principles, land use regulations, and conservation strategies.
      • Proven ability to safely and effectively operate and instruct in the use of chainsaws and other forestry equipment. Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Game of Logging) are highly desirable.
      • Experience in curriculum development, instructional delivery, and assessment in a secondary or post-secondary setting preferred.

  • Teacher - Driver's Education

    TITLE: Teacher - Driver's Education

    Job Summary:     
    Reporting to the Director of CTE and the Academic Dean and working collaboratively with faculty and staff, the Driver’s Education Instructor is responsible for teaching students the necessary skills and knowledge to become safe and responsible drivers. This role involves both classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training. 
    Duties, Responsibilities and Specific Requirements:
    • Classroom Instruction:
      • Teach students about road safety, traffic laws, and defensive driving techniques.
      • Provide clear explanations of the rules of the road, signs, signals, and markings.
      • Educate students about the mechanics of driving, including vehicle operation and maintenance basics.
      • Prepare and deliver lessons based on the state’s curriculum and regulations.
    • Behind-the-Wheel Training:
      • Supervise students during in-car driving lessons, ensuring safety and proper driving techniques.
      • Offer constructive feedback and guidance to students on handling a vehicle, making turns, parallel parking, merging, and other driving skills.
      • Monitor students’ progress, assess their abilities, and provide tailored instructions to help improve driving performance.
    • Assessment and Evaluation:
      • Administer written and practical exams to assess student knowledge and driving ability.
      • Provide progress reports to students and their parents or guardians, if applicable.
      • Track attendance and performance data.
    • Safety and Compliance:
      • Ensure all driving sessions are conducted in a safe, controlled environment, following traffic laws, school policies, and state regulations.
      • Maintain a safe and clean vehicle and classroom.
      • Manage any emergency situations or accidents according to the school or program's safety protocols.
    • Communication:
      • Establish and maintain open communication with students and their families, addressing any questions or concerns.
      • Maintain records of student progress, attendance, and any disciplinary issues.
    Skills and Qualifications:
    • Education & Certification:
      • High school diploma or equivalent
      • Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record.
      • Certification or license to teach driver’s education in the state of Vermont.
    • Experience:
      • Previous experience in teaching or driving instruction is preferred but not always required.
      • Familiarity with state laws regarding driver’s education and traffic regulations.
    • Skills:
      • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
      • Ability to remain calm and patient in stressful situations.
      • Organizational skills to track student progress and attendance.
      • Ability to teach students of varying skill levels, from beginners to more experienced drivers.
      • Knowledge of defensive driving techniques and safe driving practices.
    Working Conditions:
    • Hours may vary, with both daytime and evening shifts depending on the availability of students.

    POSITION TITLE: 504/EST Coordinator

    Summary:
    The 504 coordinator’s responsibilities include ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Act, Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to persons with disabilities.

    The 504 coordinator is responsible for coordinating Lyndon Institute’s policies and procedures relating to persons with disabilities, tracking progress relating to its policies and procedures as well as state and federal laws relating to persons with disabilities, filing all necessary reports, and providing consultative services to Lyndon Institute administration, parents and students.

    504 Coordinator Responsibilities:
    • Maintains compliant building records and documentation for all eligible students.
    • Ensures the implementation of Section 504 procedures in the building.
    • Coordinates referrals -Determines appropriate 504 team composition
    • Facilitates evaluation/eligibility determination
    • Provides notices and consents -Develops 504 plans
    • Monitors the implementation of 504 plans
    • Collaborates with 504 eligible students
    • Schedules annual reviews of each 504 student
    • Assures that 504 plans move with the student to the next level or new school
    • Serves as a daily resource to the building administrators, teachers, parents, and community members regarding section 504 issues.
    • Advises the school administrator regarding discipline issues and procedures for Section 504 eligible students being considered for suspension or expulsion.
    • Serves as a liaison between the school building and other District staff regarding Section 504 issues.
    • Attends periodic Section 504 training meetings.
    • Acts as the SSD Coordinator for the College Board tests.

    EST Coordinator & Assessment Specialist Responsibilities:
    • Assist in the development of an Educational Support Team
    • Development of an EST process
    • Facilitate the EST process, including setting up meetings, documenting student plans, and providing diagnostic assessments
    • Collaborate with faculty, administration, and parents
    • Use data to develop individual student plans

    Minimum Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
    • 2-3 years of experience in the special education field.  Teaching experience is a plus.
    • Outstanding communication skills. Ability to communicate with constituents, outside agencies and teaching staff
    • Knowledge of current federal and state regulations and procedures governing special education

    Job Summary:
    The High School French Teacher is responsible for providing instruction in the French language and culture to students in grades 9-12. This role involves planning, preparing, and delivering engaging lessons that cater to various learning styles while promoting proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The teacher will create a supportive and interactive classroom environment that encourages students to develop a deep understanding of French grammar, vocabulary, and cultural context. The position also involves assessing student progress, providing constructive feedback, and collaborating with colleagues and parents to support student success. Additional duties may include participating in school events, meetings, and professional development activities.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Develop and deliver French language lessons for high school students.
    • Assess and track student progress through tests, quizzes, assignments, and class participation.

    • Plan and work with the Director of Athletics and the VP for External Relations and Advancement for fundraising opportunities
    • Create and work with the Director of Athletics on summer and team camps
    Qualifications:
    • Must be a Vermont Principals Assoc. (VPA) certified coach and have completed all VPA-required certifications with NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) as well as CPR/AED certification
    • Able to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals, rules, and regulations essential to building a successful basketball program
    • Able to demonstrate an understanding of fitness and training for the sport
    • Able to work well with the coaching staff, administration, students, parents, and the community
    • Be of sound mind and judgment and have an understanding that athletics is an extension of the classroom and that we are looking for great leaders to mentor our athletes in becoming great, successful individuals in society
    • Follow and uphold all LI policies and procedures and create a team atmosphere that is built around the history and culture of LI

    Lyndon Institute is seeking to hire a bus driver to work 20 hrs/wk driving a morning and afternoon route.  Additional hours are available!  Drivers receive paid holidays, snow days and PTO. A $500 sign-on bonus is being offered for this position.

    • Able to demonstrate and communicate an understanding of the fundamentals, rules, and regulations essential to building a successful program.
    • Able to demonstrate an understanding of fitness and training for the sport.
    • Able to work well and build positive relationships with the coaching staff, administration, students, parents, and the community.
    • Work in unison with the Athletic Director to establish a “WE” program. 
    • Work with the Athletic Director to build a positive and accountable program that is branded with the LI culture, mission, and values.
    • Coordinates activities about practice and maintains individual and team stats per game/season.
    • Participate in all competitions and other events as assigned by the Athletic Director.
    • Be available weekdays from 3:15 pm on and on weekends as needed (depending on practice and game times).

    Description

    Dorm Parent Responsibility 
    • Ensure the safety and well-being of all the residential students.
    • Create a homelike environment for all residents in my dorm.
    • Build character in students; teach and model the principles of the school
    • Interact consistently and frequently with all residential students and build healthy relationships.
    • Serve as a means of support when a student needs advice or guidance on personal or academic matters.
    • Use restorative practices in the daily interaction with students and staff.
