Annually, Lyndon Institute hosts a residency for artists, designers, and other creative makers. Our 130-acre campus in the picturesque Northeast Kingdom, nestled between the Green and White Mountains, is awe inspiring while offering year-round outdoor recreational opportunities. As a comprehensive high school, LI has both a college-prep academic program alongside a robust Career and Technical Education program. Students can explore courses from math and history to woodworking, graphic design, and welding.
The Residency is typically 4-6 weeks and involves teaching (or co-teaching with one of our faculty) one class per week. The artist will facilitate an introduction or exploration into media of their choice and move students towards producing a work of art. The artist will host some open studio hours and mentor students through their work. LI will host a student exhibition one evening near the end of the residency, where the artist-in-residence will be honored and can showcase their work.
The residency includes:
-
Multi-room lodging will be provided on campus
-
Meals with our boarding students
-
Studio space (CAD/engineering makerspace, woodworking space, welding shop, painting, sculpture, and ceramics studios)
-
Access to our weight rooms and athletic facilities
-
Access to a vehicle outside of school hours
-
Access to outdoor recreation equipment (mountain bike, skis, snow shoes, kayak)
Artists-in-Residence help our high school students to see the wide and exciting variety of media and approaches in the world of visual arts and provide an example of someone whose passion for art has carried them beyond their high school careers.
